A "must have" for closing pool
When we purchased the ball last fall, I was little doubtful as to how well it would actually work. It was smaller than I was expecting and didn't look like much. HOWEVER..........when we opened the pool this spring the water was clear and I was amazed!! I'm getting ready to order our Winter Ball for this year's closing and I just hope In The Swim has this product as long as we have a pool!!!

      Works Great!
I bought this last year around this time and just threw it in and covered my pool. When I opened my pool again at the end of April my pool was a clear and clean looking as it was when I covered it. I didn't use any other closing chemicals, just closed off and drained my pump and let the ball do it's work.

      Best yet
I have had my pool for 18 yrs. No matter what I used in the pool for winter, I would open it in spring to cloudy, green water. Last fall was the first I tried this. I was somewhat reluctant on how a little ball will allow the pool to be so clear when I open it. But it was clear as can be.I can see every little speck of debris that was left in there when I closed it, not to mention the liner pattern so easily seen. I have suggested to all my pool friends to try this

      winter ball issue
I bought two winterizing kits with the winter pill. the kits are easy to use. one kit included a sheet on how to winterize the pool but the other didn't have this. The pin to puncture the winter ball was never check by a person ...the body is too big to fit into the hole or the shaft is too short to puncture the seal. An ice pick or long nail worked well.

      Great And Easy
      This package is a great package for closing your pool. I have gotten this package for the last 5 years and it works well. Every year when I take my cover off my pool the water is clear as can be. I have used it with an unvented (will not let water into pool) cover and a vented cover and it works well with both. Now with the vented cover you will have the dirt in your pool from the rain runoff that is to be expected however, there was no algae in the water. You can't go wrong with this kit, don't ... read more think about the price think about all the work you will have to do once you open your pool and you didn't treat it for the winter. Just saying.;

      Good product, bad description
This item was exowhat I wanted and also came with great instructions. This is my first year with a pool therefore my first year closing one. However, the description when trying to buy was terrible. Their were different winterizing kits like "deluxe" and other. None of them had hob big of a pool they were for in description. And the instructions didn't either. Hopefully I got the correct one for my pool. Hopefully this is something that can be updated.

      Good Only When Needed
I only use a 68% calcium chloride when opening my pool and after adding water when back washing my sand filter to keep the hardness in check. My local pool store sells bags of this for $0.99/lb. Works great as a shock but even after mixing and pouring in front of returns, the water remains cloudy. Muriatic acid brings the PH back in line and removes the cloudy look. The acid adds to the expense and its another chemical I don't like to store with young children. If you test your water regularly ... read more and keep everything balanced there is no need to use a shock. During the summer I only add 6% liquid chlorine that the local pool store sells for $0.99/gallon. Liquid chlorine will not cloud the water and has no other ingredients to upset my pools chemistry.

      Pool shock
This pool shock worked okay I use it for opening my pool in spring for some reason that no one can tell me why it takes cases and cases of liquid shock to get the water to read any chorine on the test strip so this year I mixed the shock some liquid some granular it still took a whole lot of shock

The name says it all! MAGIC!
We use this product when closing and opening our pool. Before we started using this product we always had a water scum line when we opened the pool. The enzymes in this product break down organics, which prevent scum-line formation. No more scrubby mitt clean-up! This product makes spring clean easy and enjoyable! Highly recommend this product.

      Excellent product
I have used Pool Magic for several years now and it has proven to be an extremely effective treatment to jump start my pool opening. I also use it to close up the pool in the fall. Well worth using.

      Great Product
I have used this winter kit several times and it has kept our pool crystal clean throughout the winter. When we take off the winter cover in the spring, all we have to do is fill the pool up and put the opening kit in and we are good to go. This makes maintaining the pool through the winter a breeze - great product.

      They Work Great!
I had bought some of these plugs when we first set up our 18' above ground pool and they worked great. Now, 8 years later they finally got weather cracked and needed replacement. You can't beat the price considering they kept water from leaking out during the winter for many years. The only change is that the wing nut is now plastic verse metal from 8 years ago. The new plastic wing nut worked great and should last as long as you keep it out of the sun during the summer.

      Works The Best!!!
I have used Algaecide 60 plus for years and love it! I previously purchased the "name brands" at local stores because they were cheaper. Well, they were not cheaper in the long run! I would use more and more without noticeable clearing of the pool water. When I finally switched to Algaecide 60 I was not very confident that I would see an improvement. I was wrong! It may cost more than the other initially, but it last a long time if used as directed. It helps keep my pool sparkling all season! I ... read more recommend it to all pool owners!

      Problem solved!
I have had a gray dust powder issue for years, some pool company said it looked like diatomaceous earth but nothing got rid of it. This took care of it and also made the water so clear and I don't think my pool has ever looked so beautiful - EVER! I am just purchasing more as a 1-2 weekly maintenance. BUY IT!!

      Best general algacide
I have used this product from ITS since the mid-1980s. My pool is a gunite (concrete) pool with an epoxy paint finish (no liner). I've had a salt cell system for a few years and my need for chemicals, other than salt, has dropped dramatically, but I still use Algacide 60+ in thee spring when opening the pool and during the summer if I see any algae at all (my robotic cleaner doesn't get in the corners real well) and I use 1 quart for winterizing. Great product. I've tried some others but have ... read more always come back to this one.

In The Swim Knowledge Pool: Closing Kits

    In The Swim's Dr. Pool

Close Your Pool With The Right Winter Pool Chemicals

During the long off season in the snowbelt – for those that winterize their swimming pool – the water is not being circulated, filtered or sanitized - making your pool the perfect breeding ground for algae. Our winter pool closing kits have been specifically designed and formulated to provide you with the exact combination of powerful winterizing chemicals to help ensure a swift opening next spring, without additional chemicals needed to restore water clarity. All of our In The Swim Pool Winter Kits Include:

    Chlorine-Free Shock

Our Chlorine-Free Shock is a powerful oxidizing agent, but is non-chlorine, and will never harm your pool surfaces or your pool cover. Chlorine-Free winter shock also dissolves faster than chlorine, and maintains greater efficacy at a wider range of pH level. All of our Winter Pool Kits contain our premium non-chlorine shock oxidizer to burn off any remaining impurities, while not reducing the effectiveness of other chemicals.

    Time-Release Winter Floater

Our exclusive time-release Winter Floater discharges a non-chlorine oxidizing agent into your pool water for months after it's been covered. Not only does this winter chemical floater sanitize your pool water, but also works to remove carbon dioxide from the water - eliminating one of algae's primary food sources. Unlike chlorine tablet pool floaters, our non-chlorine Winter Floater will never stain your plaster or vinyl.

    Winter Stain Away

Specifically formulated for closing your pool, Winter Stain Away helps eliminate stain-causing metals and minerals that can leave your pool with costly liner stains or hard-to-clean waterline build-up. Winter Stain Away sequesters metals – keeping them tied up in solution, to prevent them from precipitating out during winter. Works wonders on mesh safety covered pools, and keeps working all year round to help prevent metal and mineral stains.

    Winterizer

The final step to preventing algae next spring is to pour in our special winter pool algaecide. Dr. Pool's own proprietary polymer blend combines in perfect harmony with the other items in your pool winterizing kit. When used in conjunction with our other pool closing chemicals our Winterizer Algaecide is the perfect "knock-out" punch against algae. Lasts all winter long, even into a warm spring.

    Winter Sorb

Made exclusively for our Winterizing Kits, the Winter Sorb™ can absorb up to 40 times its weight in residual suntan lotions and body oils to prevent grease, grime and waterline scum. Oils are not good for keeping a clear pool that is winterized. They provide a low grade food source for algae, and can clog up the waterways, easily combining with free chlorine to create chloramines, which get in the way of free chlorine trying to do its job.

Buy the Winter Kit that best fits your pool size. Don't order a kit that's too small, it's better to have some extra chemical in the pool to help guard against cover tears, heavy debris or warm springtime temperatures. And if you close early, or open late in the season, to buy the next larger size winter kit.

To help select the best Winter Closing Kit, use these formulas to closely calculate the number of gallons in your pool.
     - Round Pools: Diameter x Diameter x Average Depth x 5.9 = Total Gallons
     - Oval Pools: Long Diameter x Short Diameter x Average Depth x 5.9 = Total Gallons
     - Rectangular Pools: Length x Width x Average Depth x 7.5 = Total Gallons
