    Solar Reels

      4th of July Reel
Bought the reel for the 4th of July party & it came on time. But, all the hardware was missing. Used the old for the 4th. Contacted In the Swim & they had the hardware to me the following week. Assembly was fairly easy, but difficult to keep the tube straight. Ended up with a slight permanent bend in the tube. Once assemblied the reel works well. The unit as a whole is well made.

      Held up to the winters
Great reel...no issues, assembly was fairly easy but needed to drill my own holes, no big deal. Much better than other reels friends or I have had in the past. Left outside during winters, still in perfectly good working condition after 4 years.

      Unacceptable Sagging.
The components of the reel are high quality in comparison to other solar blanket reels I have purchased. However, the aluminum center that the blanket wraps on sags badly when the blanket is wet. I would suggest that you purchase a much longer center reel than necessary so it can be overlapped more than the manufacturers suggested amounts to avoid sagging.

      2nd set
This is the 2nd set I have purchased. The attachment clips are different than the 1st set. The problem with the 1st set was that one of the clips broke. I also noted that the straps would not always wind on the reel smoothly to keep the cover flat. However, using the straps with the reel makes it easy to store the cover when not needed.

Velcro is useless, but there is a way around it.
Do not waste time with the Velcro! If you have an old set of straps, you can reuse the buckles (or purchase extra buckles that are compatible) and wrap the straps securely around your reel. Simply start by threading the non-Velcro end through the buckle around your reel, tighten it, then following the remaining instructions. You will never have to worry about Velcro coming off and it works amazingly well! There is plenty of strap length to do this, but it does require two buckles per strap which ... read more is not included.

      Worked great
We installed the remote solar reel early this summer and it worked well, once we changed the fuse, for 7 weeks. It has stopped working although the batteries and fuses seem to be fine. We are disappointed because it is such a handy thing!

      Does the job
So far so good! Reels up our 16' x 40' cover with ease

      Great Solar Reel
I installed it today and it is the greatest product I have ever purchased. Operation is smooth and quiet.

Hopefully the last reel we need to buy
we have a 24x48 pool, this reel is perfect. 1 person can manage, but 2 people makes covering and uncovering a breeze. We have had this reel for 2 years now, it has shown no wear. We do put it away in the harsh Pa. winters. Rolls very smoothly, we uncover pool toward steps, then push back out of the way.

      No sagging, but horrible instructions
We purchased this for a 24' above ground pool thinking that 1 person would be able to uncover / cover the pool. This is not the case, but only because of the size. We are very satisfied with the quality and there is no sagging and holds the solar cover nicely. The big issue is that the instructions are awful and the video tutorials on the Rocky website are seriously out of date. Because it's an AG pool, we did not need the concrete anchors included, so not sure of those directions. Overall, ... read more it's a great product, but for a large AG pool with a wooden deck, spend the money on an automatic reel.

      Very easy to use
I just bought this reel this year. At first I tried to use it without drilling into my patio to anchor it, but that didn't work. Once I anchored to the patio it worked like a charm. So easy to roll-up the solar blanket now - even my seven year old daughter does it. We are very happy with this reel!

      Worth Every Penny
When my 16 x 34 fiberglass pool was installed last year, the $10,000 to $12,000 it would cost to have an automatic pool cover installed was not an option. Needless to say, I soon tired of pulling my solar cover on and off and then laying it to the side. This took up all of my usable space on one length of the pool. Once I started looking for solar cover reels, I was pleased to find that the Pool Boy III was within my budget. I have been using my Pool Boy III for a little over a month, and it has ... read more been worth ever penny. It fits directly underneath my diving board and looks very neat and tidy. In addition, I don't have to worry about pulling and tugging with the fear of ripping my cover. You do need to buy the Solar Reel Attachment Kit for In Ground Pools though. Otherwise, you will not be able to secure the cover to the reel. The only con is that I am starting to see a few rusty areas here and there. If it lasts for many years to come, I will have no complaints.

      Life saver!!
I've been using a hand crank reel for years and when it was time for a new one I opted for this one and boy I have not been disappointed! It's so easy to use! I don't know how I did it without this!! I'm in love!!!

Just purchased this battery operated reel. I was going to purchase the Pool Boy 2 with an electrical plug but I had no outlets nearby and an extension cord would be unsightly. I'm so glad I bought this battery powered reel. It was easy to install and set up, it took me and my son 2 hours to assemble. The reel is solid and sturdy, it doesn't wobble with my 20' X 45' heavy 16mil solar cover. That little battery powers up the cover in both directions in under a minute. The only drawback is the ... read more that there is only one remote and it must be re-activated with each use by pressing both buttons for a few seconds as a safety I guess. If the battery holds charge for two weeks before recharging , I'll be satisfied as it only takes 6 hours to fully charge. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase as it was also delivered within 3 days from purchase. Thank you IntheSwim.com

      Best Ever!
This is by far an incredible reel system and Affordable compared to any other automatic pool cover system! I waited for over 2 years for a review and finally found one on another site who complained about the short cord - really?? That is not even a hiccup compared to how one person can pull off the cover and cover the pool back up with ease. Now for one we have an oval pool with steps. If you use a solar blanket cover this will work on any pool according to the Mfg. when I called. We kept the ... read more cover square where we attached the cover to the reel; we cut the cover on both sides so the seams of the cover are centered also. This is so the tether cord attaches on the seams to the poly rod which is underneath the cover. This would be for strength. We also got the adjustable Pool Boy and set it on the highest setting. Be mindful, the video does leave out the part where you do have to straighten out your cover at the start of reeling up the cover but after that, this is a DREAM come true. Wish I had it from the beginning, it would have save a lot of hassle.

      Poor assembling instructions
We bought the reel couple weeks ago...we have not run it yet but I can tell you that instructions to put it together could be better. Would I recommend to a friend...don't know yet.

      Really great product
We finally decided to order this because our manual reel broke last year. I'm so glad we did! We were a little worried about the cost- but using it for just a month we're so happy with it already. I can finally take the cover on and off myself- which will be great during the summer when the kids swim every day. And I'm sure it will help save on heating the pool because I can cover it every night. It seems really well made too. We had to call the manufacturer to ask some questions about ... read more installing it- but after that it was pretty simple. I highly recommend this product!

      Excellent Reel
I would buy this reel again in a snap. Super smooth operation that my young daughter can operate. This reel does not flex in the middle, even though I have it extended to the max @ 16feet, with the heaviest 16mil ultra-clear blanket. I think this reel should extend the life of the blanket by 100%. You must align the tubes for the length you want, drill a few holes (they supply the drill bit), use some common sense and follow the instructions. Not difficult. The frame is tubular alluminum so it ... read more is just heavy enough not to tip,and strong enough not to break. (Like I suspect a plastic one would) I know everyone will love this reel!

      Not bad...But.
All in all a nice solar reel. Easy to assemble and operate. sturdy enough even at maximun extension. The only drawback is that the straps that attach the cover to the reel rotted away after just one season.

      solar blanket reel
once i figured out how to assemble then it went together rather easily (thanks to youtube videos)... the instructions that come with it are terrible... and attaching the straps took time... it's a nice reel once it's together

      Winter Cover for solar blanket
This will be first winter so we will find out how well it works for us. But it did fit on for the width. but we have a 45' long pool so the buckle straps for it was to short to wrap around blanket. But it had a zipper for the whole length and draw rope at each end. so it seamed to seal it up good.
    2. 1 decade ago
      Solid Quality and Easy
The zipper worker very well and rip stop stitching should provide longer life. The straps given to secure the cover were too short to go around the heavy duty blanket girth so I improvised with bungee cords. The draw strings easly secured the cover to the reel. The manufactures should make the cover 6 or so inches longer to accomodate a less than even rolling of the cover. This would provide the extra material to span the length of the solar blanket simplifying securing the cover to the ... read more reel. Overall I love the idea, it is just what I needed and have already recommended it to my friends.

Great solar blanket cover. Simple to use.
The Solar blanket cover is great and easy to use. The only thing I would recommend is that when you put the cover on your solar blanket and reel, make sure that you roll it so that the zipper is at the bottom. If not, I believe it will catch water and snow and possible freeze in the winter. Otherwise, it was the first thing my neighbor noticed was the cover. He is going to get one also.
