Rated 5 out of 5 by from Diatomaceous Earth Filter Powder We switched to the DE filter two years ago, and like it much better than the sand filters we have had in the past. Our inground pool is 39 years old and we have been dealing with In the Swim for that many years. Order came the next day and saved me a trip to town.

      Technical Specifications:

    • For Above Ground and In Ground D.E. Filter Systems.
    • 100% ecologically safe to the environment.
    • Use a mask when applying DE.
    • Can filter down to 3-5 microns.
    • The DE filter is the most efficient type of pool filter on the market.
    • The pressure gauge indicates a need for backwashing when it reads 8-10 lbs higher then when D.E. was first added into filter.
    • Fine powder that coats filter grid to grab at dirt particles.

    • What is D.E. made out of?
      – Diatomaceous earth consists of fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of hard-shelled algae.

      How large are D.E. particles?
      – Microscopically-small, hollow particles.

      Is D.E. toxic?
      – It is a non-toxic, but you should always wear a mask when adding to your filter.

How many times do I need to replace D.E.?
      – You should replace your DE after every time you backwash the filter.

      Troubleshooting:

      – Make sure you add the recommend amount of D.E. by the manufacture of the filter.

      – Did you add the D.E. into the skimmer?

      – If you are adding too much are you using a coffee can? A coffee can is not a pound of D.E. you should be using a D.E. scoop. The D.E. Scoop will help to get the correct amount of D.E.

      – DE is leaking back into the pool. Be sure that the suspected material on the pool floor is actually DE. Pollen, chemical residue and plaster dust often look like DE. You may have a tear in your filter elements, replace if necessary. Make sure that you assemble the internal parts properly. Check for air leaks, as this will cause the system to leak DE back into the pool. If there are air leaks, install a check valve between the pump and the filter valve.
