INTRODUCING THE MOST VALUABLE TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION IN POOL EQUIPMENT HISTORY!

The new Pentair IntelliFlo® High Performance Variable Speed Pumps slash energy use by 30% to 90%, saving hundreds per year.

Few pool owners realize their pool pump can use more electricity than all the appliances in their home. That’s because most pool pumps are traditional single-speed models with ¾ HP or larger, induction-style motors. For decades this was the norm because electricity costs were low and supply was abundant.

Fortunately, now there are digitally controlled, variable speed IntelliFlo® High Performance Pumps with permanent magnet motors.  Permanent magnet motors assure a 30% base savings compared to induction motors. Then, savings build up to 90% with the ability to custom program the optimum pump speed or water flow for different functions—filtering, heating, cleaning, spa jets, and water features. read more

The secret to minimizing pump energy use is to operate at the lowest speed needed to accomplish a job. It takes far less energy to move water slowly than quickly. In fact, reducing pump speed by half reduces power needed to an eighth of what was needed previously to get the job done. These new pumps allow you to set and adjust pump speed to achieve the minimum energy use.

The Pentair IntelliFlo® employs variable drive technology controlled by an onboard computer and sophisticated software to allow pinpoint programming, or TOTALLY AUTOMATIC OPERATION, to achieve and maintain optimum (typically lower) flow rates for further energy savings. IntelliFlo® typically operates at an average of just 1/10th of a horsepower, using about 100 watts of energy…about the same as a light bulb. Exclusive, variable speed capability builds savings up to 90%, resulting in dramatically lower electricity expenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great pump When i bought this pump it was called "PENTAIR INTELLIFLO 3.2KW PUMP" but item number is the same "E2855" I bought it for $1289.99 in June 2009, I don't know why the name change or the price increase. PROS: Great pump, Turned my frog pond (pool was unused for 1 year) back into a pool in 2 weeks at 2 turn overs per day. Now I'm pumping 16 GPM for 1 turnover in 24 hours (can pump upto 140 GPM). At current rate it's using around 200 watts of power, but will vary with conditions (suction resistance, filter dirty and return resistance). I'm using between 1/3 and 1/10 of electricity then old pump. Will shut off if pressure to the filter gets too high, pressure limit is user setable. Will shut off if intake blocked, but does a restart in a few minutes. My old pump used 1.5 inch pipes, this one needs 2 inch pipes. I have two 1.5 inch pipes feeding pump (and returning) and have trouble with suction over 40-45 GPM, I will be replacing old pipes with larger ones (pump is about 15 feet from pool). CONS: Pump is computer controlled and needs to be shaded to prevent over heating and has a cooling fan at the rear that needs cross ventilation and must be protected from mud or dirt splashing into it. My pump is located by the house and I built a simple lean to with 1x2s and black plastic to protect it. The pump can produce a lot of tork at high flow rates when started or turned off, base of pump has places for bolting it down. At the low rates I'm using it at the plumbing seems to be ok to prevent it, and I'm running it constantly (24 hours per day), so no shut-offs or turn-ons.
