Intex pools make adding a pool to your back yard simple and easy. In most cases, there is no permit or fence required and all pools include complete DIY instructions and a set-up DVD. Intex Prism Pools offer an affordable price and unique size that fits smaller back yards. All pools come with a super-tough, puncture-resistant, 3-ply PVC liner that’s blue/gray with white trim and mosaic tile print inside. Strong powder-coated steel tubing construction is used throughout and there is a convenient built-in drain plug so you never have to pump it out to empty it. read more

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome pool for the price point When it comes to buying a swimming pool, it might not be very well known the difficulties and expenses that come along with it. When purchasing a big brand pool from a local pool store, it can quickly turn into an over $10,000 venture depending on the conditions of installation, and general conditions of your area (water, air, environment etc). I have a relatively small yard, and last year I decided that the summer months were just too hot to be without a pool. I decided that a 24' or smaller pool would fit my yard and went to my local Wal-Mart and picked up a 22' Intex Ultra Frame pool for under $500. I was relatively new to pool installation, but I had it up and filling within an hour. What I hadn't taken into consideration was the fact that my yard pitched down over 14" across about 20' of stretch. When I got up the next morning I had a filled pool with a very shallow end on one side, and the sidewall was stressed big time. The poles on the low side were almost getting overrun by the pool and it looked like it was going to go over. I needed a quick solution, so I jacked up the poles on the deeper end and put cement blocks down to prevent the poles from driving into the ground. We swam in it all year, as bad as it looked it survived the season. The next year (this year) I moved the pool to a flatter spot (I thought) in the backyard, but upon filling it up it was actually worse than the original spot! After a couple days the poles were going into the soil so bad I had to drain the pool and move it. I moved it and set it up on blocks again then refilled it, and it was not too bad - but within a couple days a hole tore in the liner - not on a seam, but the liner bottom was stretched so far from the excessive weight on that end that the liner just gave out. Shame on me, lesson learned. We still needed a pool. I checked EVERYWHERE local. Nobody had my 22' Intex Ultra Frame anymore. Noone. Uh oh... I tried online, and found the same issue. Then I came upon InTheSwim. Again, no 22' Ultra Frames, but I seen the 24' Prism Frame pool! A couple hundred more than I paid for my 22', but we were in dire straits at this point and needed a solution. I ordered, and they had it to my house in just a few days. Remember the lesson from before? Yep I started cutting ground before I laid down the new pool. Probably spend a good week with a friend helping cut down the soil, tilling it up, moving it, leveling the ground. What a task in a yard the pitches hard downhill... We did it though, and put the pool up on level ground for the first time! Now mind you, we even rented a compactor and beat the soil down flat as best we could, so we thought we had it made. Filled it up overnight, and woke up the next morning to find the pool was overflowing to one side again! This time however, it wasn't the pool base being uneven, the poles drove right down into the ground. Once again, drained it, dug out the pole supports and put cement blocks in. Filled it again, and it stayed put finally. The prism frame pool is nice overall. The poles are certainly not as durable as my old Ultra Frame pool, and the foot pads are much smaller as well (which made the drive down into the ground that much worse I imagine. The liner seems to be good quality though, and the setup was still pretty easy considering its size. One thing I don't like at all is the pins you have to use to connect the top rails together - these have been a pain since the start. The ultra frame pool used spring loaded captive pins that you just pushed in to seat and they locked... these pins are manual and they go in, and pop out while you work your way around the pool. Just keep at it with the rubber mallet, eventually they will stay put and you can lift the frame up on the uprights. The accessories that come with it - well the filter and cartridge I am not using. I purchased a Hayward DE filter and 1HP pump for the pool this year and the pool is MUCH cleaner and easier to maintain than last year. So I have a spare pump and filter if I ever have troubles I suppose. The ladder - unless you weigh under 200lbs and have great balance, the bundled ladder is terrible (I am just shy of 300lbs and it was a trip going up the included ladder - yes picture it, its hilarious). I bought a Confer Plastics A-Frame 7200 ladder on Amazon which is MUCH (MUCH MUCH) better. Great upgrade if you value stability. The value factor here is good. You will spend over $2000 to get a good permanent above ground pool that isn't a quick throw together assembly. Add in ground leveling, and a pump, ladder, etc (things you don't usually get bundled) then this $700 24' above ground pool is a GREAT option, especially in Michigan where I really only see 3 months of good swimming weather each year anyway. Easy up, easy down, you really can't go wrong with this pool - just be sure you install it on LEVEL ground. A pool of this size holds 12,500 gallons of water - which at 8.34 lbs per gallon of water equates to 104,250 pounds of weight (plus 200-300 for the liner and poles). If you don't have this thing level, you are relying on the liner to hold back the weight of a 10 axle semi truck on the low side. Do it right, level the ground the first time, put down the sand and profit. You'll appreciate the struggle savings down the road, I guarantee it!
