Harness The Pool Filtering Power of Volcanic Glass

Take control of your pool filter routine and remove even the smallest and most challenging of particles with Aqua Perl. This amazing diatomaceous earth replacement is one of the world’s best filter media. Aqua Perl is created from volcanic glass, meaning it’s not only all-natural but also completely free of crystalline silica. It boasts a lower density than diatomaceous earth alternatives, ensuring uniform pre-coating and a fast, easy and thorough backwashing.

Aqua Perl provides a powerful and superior DE alternative and it requires only half the product to achieve the same results of traditional DE. As well as more efficiency with less product, Aqua Perl also requires no converting—just use the scoop to determine exactly how much you need. It doesn’t attract oil byproducts meaning longer filter cycles and less work for you, and this high-grade filter media has not only a lower density than DE but also a higher capacity to contain solids and oils.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fine replacement I bought this product for the new pool season based on the reviews. The bag is the same size as the DE bag although half the weight but you need to use the same quality on both products. One feature that attracted me to this alternative to DE was the longer time between backwashing the filter. So far there doesn't seem to be any difference in required back flush. As far as filtering ability I was impressed I was able to get my pool balanced a clear within two days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Stuff I started using this filter aid in my D. E. filter 3 weeks ago to get away from the hazards of D.E. I completely cleaned out my filter beforehand as per some blogs I've read and, though I wouldn't say my water is any clearer with this product, it is still perfectly clear, the filter pressure has behaved normally (1/2 psi total increase in 3 weeks) and it's not carcinogenic. I have to order it since it's not sold where I live but, with IN THE SWIM prices, if you buy enough to avoid the shipping charges, it's a little bit cheaper than D. E. It's supposed to backflush out more completely than D. E. too but no data on that yet. So far, I'm happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crystal Clear!! I bought it on a trial basis. My filter system works great, but even was surprised to see the noticeable clarity of the water....using half the amount that was normally required with the standard D.E...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product I bought this product to replace regular DE, it is very fine like baby powder. I just mix it with pool water and dump it in the skimmer. It works very well!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the Job Even though they claim it is nontoxic, I still use an air filter mask (respirator). When I first charge the filter a lot escapes into the pool, but I can vacuum it up and after that it stays in the filter. I have used this product exclusively since I got the pool ten years ago and I have never used DE, because I have always been happy with Aqua Perl. I replaced my grids for the first time last year (old ones lasted 9 years before they developed some holes) and I noticed more is escaping into the pool when I first charge the filter, however again, after the first round of vacuuming it stays in the filter. I think the new grids are courser material or the old grids were more clogged and therefore trapped the initial charge better. In any case, I’m still happy and the pool is crystal clear. I have a rather large filter for my pool size, so I only have to charge the filter two times per season, which in New Jersey runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The good thing is, because it is nontoxic, I can dump this stuff in the yard when I am backwashing and it disappears into the ground. You have to be more careful with DE.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It Works -- But Takes Some Effort There are several negative reviews all because of problems with grids clogging after using this DE replacement. Whenever you switch filter media types, the filter must be thoroughly cleaned of the old media. This requires backwashing, disassembly and rinsing the grids, soaking the grids in detergent (I use automatic dishwasher detergent with a little TSP added) and water, and removing all water and old media from the filter housing. If there are calcium deposits on the grids and/or housing, they should be sprayed with 5:1 water:muriatic acid after washing and rinsing followed by a thorough rinse with clean water. You will be shocked at what comes off the grids when they are soaked in water/detergent. Make sure you rinse everything before reassembly. If you thoroughly clean the filter and remove all the old filter media, you will not have problems with the grids clogging.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good stuff! As A Pool & Spa service professional for over 15 years field experience. Aqua Perl is all we USE!. When properly used & proper amount is added it works well,Most pool owners do not properly backwash or use undersized or too long of a backwash hose and hence do not fully flush the grids causing a build up over time, and Any hole, crack (no matter what size) or multiport valve malfunction will cause D.E to migrate back too the pool.& If your filter valve (multiport) or Backwash valve works or turns hard then,or seeps water, then FIX IT! IT WILL CAUSE YOU backwash & D.E problems...Don't Blame the D.E or system 9 times out of 10 it IS the operator!!! Green pools? shock it, add lots of chlorine, leave the filter in recirc until water turns color green to greyish then a couple of days later put filter in filter mode ,backwash as needed, after pool clears enough and dead algae settles to bottom vacuum pool out to waste,NOT THRU THE FILTER ! after pool is vacuumed put it back in filter mode balance chems good to go! Works everytime,we use a gas powered trash pump, but you can use the waste option on the valve..Aqua-Perl is Great Stuff and I know Several pool companys along with me and ALL THEY USE is Aqua perl also!

What is Aqua Perl Made out of?
Natural volcanic product 99% Silica Free. A paper pulp.

Weighs less; filters better; easier to remove from filter grids; lengthens the time between backwashing and cleaning.

      Trouble Shooting:

      • Use the same amount of scoops of Aqua Perl as you would DE.
      • Weighs less then DE, but still requires the same amount of scoops.
      • Using a coffee can to add your Aqua Perl? By using a coffee can you can end up putting too much or too little Aqua Perl into your filter. The manufacturers give dosages in lbs. Not every coffee can has a 1 pound capacity. It is recommended to use a DE scoop, item #A6195, to get the correct amount of Aqua Perl into your filter.
      • Make sure to introduce the Aqua Perl in through your skimmer.
