    Solar Reels

    1. 9 years ago
What a perfect saver, in so many ways!
Our old solar cover had a lot of wear -and- tear from constantly taking it on and off of our pool. So, we purchased a new solar cover from In The Swim. In the process of putting it on our pool we realized that it weighed much more than our old cover did and would be more difficult to remove. This solar cover holder is the answer to our problem. It not only saves wear-and-tear on our new cover but it saves us a lot of energy and time.

      Great Solution
We've got a 24' round pool and this works great. We used to roll up the cover and lay it in the grass or drap it over our fence. The fence would tear it and we got all kinds of dirt and grass back in the pool. This attached quite easily and makes covering and uncovering much better. I can uncover it from outside the pool and pull it back on from inside the pool by myself. My son can pull it back on with a little help. No more grass all over the cover!

      Nice Alternative to the Reels
We have used a solar reel for about 3 years prior. Everyone in the family hated it! Nobody wanted to be first in the pool or last out. There was always complications. I found this on line and decided it couldn't hurt to try. Wow! The whole family agrees how much easier it is! No more fighting with a big heavy reel and having the stupid blanket get stuck. It is simply: fold and over the edge! The only downfall was installation. It took a few attempts to get the saddles where they needed to be for ... read more proper storage of the blanket.

Good system to attach a pool cover to a reel
Requires only a small knife or pair of scissors to assemble. Straps are attached to cover at about 4 feet intervals. Small pads of adhesive velcro are attached to reel which hold the ends of the straps. It is all very simple and works well.

      Good for all solar covers
The "Above Ground" kit for my AG pool was useless. The ropes rotted in one year and the plastic disintegrated. The "In Ground" kit works much better. Forget about attaching the straps directly to the cover. Here is what I do: get a 1/2 inch vinyl water pipe the approximate width of the cover. Glue end caps on so it will float. Pass the straps top to underneath the cover and around the pipe and back up through the buckles. The pipe floats just under the cover and when it is pulled up the cover ... read more stays nice and flat and does not bunch so much. When the cover is unrolled the ends tend to curl under the surface. I attach another 18 inch length of capped pipe to each end of the cover. The pipes pull the ends down and help float the ends out the right way.

      GREAT SERVICE
I purchased this a month ago and am yet to get it set up. I just don't do much in triple digit heat. I've used the product before and am very confident in it. It will be very easy to put together. Their service is fantastic. The products were shipped immediately and were here in a day or two. I'm looking forward to cooler weather so I can get this set up and running.

      Good product, but bad design
I bought this solar cover reel about 3 weeks ago. I would like to think I am fairly handy and it took about 2 1/2 - 3 hours to complete the install. The reel does its job, but the Velcro for the straps is a little rediculous. For a product knowingly going to be wet and in the elements constantly to have Velcro to place on the reel is a bad design. After the reel was put together for about a week I woke up and saw that 4 out of the 8 Velcro pieces had fallen off. Not a big surprise on my end. I ... read more took self tapping screws and screwed the solid end of the strap straight to the reel to solve the problem. Other than that the reel serves its purpose and seems to have durability.

So glad to have this for my solar blanket .
This reel went together easily and rolls up the blanket so smooth ! We had to attach the straps w/ screws as our Velcro didn't hold . Highly recommended.

Love it even my twin 4 year old grandsons can do it.

      Works great. So much easier
I bought this for our 20x40' in ground pool. It's our first solar cover reel and I must say it was worth the price. What used to take two people about 10 minutes to do with a lot of hassle, now takes only one person less than five minutes. I chose this reel because I wanted something that would last and was tall enough to roll over the diving board with the cover reeled up. I also like that it has a 5yr warranty when many of the others only had a 1 yr or 3yr at the most. I am a little leery of ... read more the pole as it sags in the middle with or without the cover reeled up, but 20 ft is quite a distance for poke to remain perfectly straight and rigid without being made of solid steel. The straps for hooking up the cover to reel worked great and look like they will hold on well. It took a little bit to setup the main polevel as it required some drilling to customize the length to fit yur pool. It was well worth the effort however and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to a friend.

      Works well
Compared to the reels on the groynd, this reel works so easily. You can break the wheels and actually pull it on with one person. Wheeling in is a dream. Only prob is what I knew going in. Directions are a bit confusing and you need a strong drill. Aluminum is strong and hard. But I am a 120 lb woman.

      Great reel
I had this reel a few weeks and it has significantly improved my solar cover experience. Like others have stated it does take awhile to setup and attach to your pool. My individual experience took me most of a day, by myself to setup. But that is only because of its semi universal nature. It seems very sturdy and I feel I will get many good years out of it.

      Fairly easy to use
Just what we expected. A little long to assemble, but works great.

Above ground pool solar reel system
I bought three weeks ago and it's great. No having to fold cover. It rolls rite up and can be moved one handed. It's saved my arms and shoulders!

      Tips easily
Decent quality of components, but not steady. Easily tips when trying to roll or unroll cover.

      Love This Reel
I love how easy this reel makes taking my solar blanket off my pool. Before I got this reel I was pulling my blanket off to the side so I could go swimming. Now I just turn the handle and my 12' x 40' blanket rolls up easily and I have the whole pool to swim in. It is easy for me to unroll also -- I just stay in the pool once done swimming, and then gradually pull it to the opposite end. I am very happy with this reel and would recommend it highly.

      Excellent Reel
I would buy this reel again in a snap. Super smooth operation that my young daughter can operate. This reel does not flex in the middle, even though I have it extended to the max @ 16feet, with the heaviest 16mil ultra-clear blanket. I think this reel should extend the life of the blanket by 100%. You must align the tubes for the length you want, drill a few holes (they supply the drill bit), use some common sense and follow the instructions. Not difficult. The frame is tubular alluminum so it ... read more is just heavy enough not to tip,and strong enough not to break. (Like I suspect a plastic one would) I know everyone will love this reel!

      Rocky's 3A reel
I purchased a cheap plastic reel 3 years ago and my neighbor purchased a Rocky's - I was penny wise and dollar foolish. I recently purchased a Rocky's from In The Swim and I'm very happy with it. It even holds up well outside in our harsh Wisconsin winters.

      This roller is great!
We got this roller this year to replace another that has sagged in the middle and broken after two summers. The other roller was hard to work with, this roller is stable, has a low center of gravity, locks to the deck when you don't want it to roll, rolls well when you do want it to roll. I wish I knew two years ago to get this roller. This roller comes with the best cover attachment equipment that I've seen.

Hopefully the last reel we need to buy
we have a 24x48 pool, this reel is perfect. 1 person can manage, but 2 people makes covering and uncovering a breeze. We have had this reel for 2 years now, it has shown no wear. We do put it away in the harsh Pa. winters. Rolls very smoothly, we uncover pool toward steps, then push back out of the way.

      Life saver!!
I've been using a hand crank reel for years and when it was time for a new one I opted for this one and boy I have not been disappointed! It's so easy to use! I don't know how I did it without this!! I'm in love!!!

Just purchased this battery operated reel. I was going to purchase the Pool Boy 2 with an electrical plug but I had no outlets nearby and an extension cord would be unsightly. I'm so glad I bought this battery powered reel. It was easy to install and set up, it took me and my son 2 hours to assemble. The reel is solid and sturdy, it doesn't wobble with my 20' X 45' heavy 16mil solar cover. That little battery powers up the cover in both directions in under a minute. The only drawback is the ... read more that there is only one remote and it must be re-activated with each use by pressing both buttons for a few seconds as a safety I guess. If the battery holds charge for two weeks before recharging , I'll be satisfied as it only takes 6 hours to fully charge. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase as it was also delivered within 3 days from purchase. Thank you IntheSwim.com
