    Pool Shock

      Eliminated My Yellow Algae
We have a 15,000 gallon 16 year old concrete pool that needs to be refinished because it has corroded over the years from chemical use which creates the perfect environment for algae growth. We had mustard algea pretty much everywhere with a concentration on the sides and steps. The Super Algeacide and Super Shock totally eliminated it! It took a lot of elbow grease (brushing and vacuuming), but after a couple days and almost the entire bottle of Super Algeacide over the course of thee days, it ... read more is gone and has remained gone! Last summer I spent much more $ at our local pool supply store buying products to eliminate the mustard algea. Great product and great price!

      Great price for great products.
Great value compared to other places, glad I didn’t get price gouged by the chain stores.

Very happy with the results and easy of closing pool

      Great results!
This is our first year in our new house, and the pool had been poorly taken care of by the previous owners. The water was cloudy even after an almost complete water change and balancing. Then it turned green. Yuck! The pool shock we bought from our local pool store was not cutting it. Saw this online and figured it was worth trying. So happy we did! This in combination with Super Floc Out cleared the water right up. Now we use Super Pool Shock once a week to prevent new algae growth. I won't use anything else!

      Best shock on the market
I've tried so many brands of shock over the years, but In the Swim shock is hands down the best shock I've ever used.

Now that the summer has passed and I have some experience with this product I feel I can give an honest assessment. It works. The fine granules dissolve much better than other formulations at 68% or less available chlorine, and it has killed and oxidized anything I've ever found in my pool. Figuring the cost per unit of available chlorine shows that this product is cheaper even though it's priced higher. And you use less of it. Recommend that for maximum effect, powder shock should be broadcast ... read more into the pool after the sun goes down.

excellent pool shock & spa super chlorinator
I have had a pool for 35 years and have always used dichlor as my shock (except for hth early on). it works great and the price is good (wish it were cheaper but In The Swim's price compares favorably to the competition). the tub lid is easy on / easy off. NOTE: If you buy a tub for the pool and have a spa, set some of this product aside for use as your spa chlorinating agent. (It is a lot cheaper than buying the spa chlorinating agent which is the identical formulation).

      I was amazed
This product amazed me - we had been using a lesser product and we had to mix it in water, pour it in through the filter and it STILL came out the spouts and settled on the floor of the pool. This product is simple to use - just sprinkle it around the deep end and watch as it quickly disolves prior to hitting the bottom of the pool - it immediately raises the chlorine level!

      Excellent product
I have had great results with this product. Well worth the money.

      I LOVE THIS LITTLE BOTTLE
AT FIRST I WAS SKEPTICAL ABOUT THIS POWDERED INSTANT LIQUID -- I NORMALLY BUY THE LIQUID CHLORINE TO ADD TO MY POOL, SO AT FIRST WHEN I OPEN THIS BOTTLE AND SAW IT WAS GRANULAR I THOUGHT WHY WOULD THEY CALL THIS "INSTANT LIQUID CHLORINE" BUT I HAD NO CHOICE AT THE MOMENT AND USED IT AFTER A LARGE POOL PARTY AND BOY WAS I PLEASANTLY SURPRISED...IT MADE MY POOL CRYSTAL CLEAR AND I'VE HAD TO USE SO LITTLE TO MAINTAIN ON A WEEKLY BASIS...SO I LOVE THAT I'M ACTUALLY SAVING MONEY. THANKS IN THE SWIM!

      Works well
Great purchase! I used it to shock the pool and the next day all the algae were gone

      Disappointed
Was hopeful it would dissolve much better than it did. Having to brush the bottom of the pool with each application is not worth it. The chemical part was fine, just didn't enjoy the brushing. I will go back to liquid chlorine.

      Pool Opening
I bought chlorine granules, shock and pool perfect. After the first initial shock, for the remainder of the year all I use in our pool is the granules and the pool perfect. It is crystal clear.

      Great product! Bad container design!
The product itself is fantastic! It's nice not having to deal with opening 1 lb bags, one by one. However, the lid refused to come off, literally. We actually ended up having to take a hatchet to the top to create a hole get the granules out. Luckily we had an extra empty large container that our 3" chlorine tablets came in, so it ended up dumping the product in that container instead. ITS - you might want to look into the design and why this has happened multiple times (I had read that this was ... read more an issue for another person on the reviews as well). I would still highly recommend this product though.

Great value, even better when on sale!
I have a 60,000 gal in-ground in the middle of the woods in the northeast... constant debris, wildlife, etc. making its way into the pool on a daily basis makes keeping the chemistry balanced and inhibiting algae growth a constant struggle. Previously I was running to the local pool store and picking up liquid chlorine 15 gals at a shot to balance and shock the pool in conjunction with my In The Swim Tri-Chlor tablets in my 2 chlorinators. I decided to give the Calcium Hypochlorite ... read more Sanitizing Granules a shot when I saw the 50# container on a great sale price while reordering my Tri-Chlor tabs. My first shock treatment only took 6# of granules, where as I typically would need 10-15 gallons to reach the same effect. Cost to product ratio was far better with the Granules, plus I can store the 50# much safer in a smaller space than the equivalent in liquids with fewer trips. Not to mention I'm far less likely to get a chemical burn from splashback or accidental spillage with the granules. From my initial experience, I estimate that I will continue this method over liquid chlorine from now on.

      Clouds Water
This product worked better than the HTH shock that I also purchased however they both do not dissolve like they claim to and they also make the water cloudy. Will probably not order again. I prefer the In The Swim Super Shock...never had a cloudy issue with that product.

Bought to help in the management of our salt system pool after having the same recommended by the pool supply where a water sample was taken which is about 29 miles one way.

CRYSTAL CLEAR SPARKLY pool, better than Calpo!
We switched from super-shock to Dichlor for our 18x33' above ground pool because our well water is extremely hard, and this brand of it is awesome! 99% sodium Dichlor clears our pool SO FAST! Calpo took WEEKS to clear a green pool. With di-zap, we have a crystal clear pool in ONE day. Beautiful, clear, SPARKLING. Amazing. Plus it helps keep our stabilizer levels up... another problem we were having. And it dissolves quickly & completely - no liner bleaching. Love di-zap from In The Swim!

      Pool shock
This pool shock worked okay I use it for opening my pool in spring for some reason that no one can tell me why it takes cases and cases of liquid shock to get the water to read any chorine on the test strip so this year I mixed the shock some liquid some granular it still took a whole lot of shock

Crystal Clear Over Night! Kills everything!
This shock works great. It dissolves in the water before even hitting the liner of my pool, even in the shallow end. The shock power is intense. I use shock on a regular basis to keep my pool clean, but when I get some cloudiness, or have a lot of people in, I use one to two bags after, and my pool is crystal clear within hours. The next day...you wouldn't even know it's been used.

      excellent producer.
I have been using this pool shock for years and I find it very effective. No need for super shock in my 30,000 + gal pool

      A Great Product
I have been using this product as a supplemental pool shock for 16 years. I have lots of grand kids and like to keep my chlorine level at 3ppm. After heavy swim usage I shock with chlorine-free shock to sanitize with out raising the chlorine level. As a retired Pool Store employee I have recommended this type of shock many times to customers who have had high chlorine levels but needed additional water sanitation.

      Great on my skin
I have a fair skin complexion making me highly susceptible to chlorine. I originally thought I could get by with just using this and not using Chlorine in my pool. Nope don’t make that mistake, that was a rookie move I had made many years ago until I found my pool having mustard algae and a huge chlorine demand. Wound up forking out a lot of money to bring my chlorine levels back up to par, but I paid for the lesson. So while you still need chlorine to effectively balance your pool, this is ... read more great for weekly shock treatments and upkeep which is easier on my skin then standard chlorine treatments.

      Great for smaller pools
I've been using this product for years in a vinyl lined 9,700 gal. pool. Regular chlorine shock runs the chlorine level up too high for swimming for over 24 hours, but with this product we can swim the next day. (I usually shock late in the evening.) Also, it doesn't bleach the liner. But if the pool gets infected with algae, you need chlorine shock.

In The Swim Knowledge Pool: Pool Shock

    In The Swim's Dr. Pool

    Shock Treatments for Swimming Pools

Granular pool shock treatments are a convenient way to sanitize and disinfect pool water. Used in small amounts, our pool shock can raise chlorine levels quickly for a pool found to be lacking. In larger amounts, pool shock will easily super-chlorinate or hyper-chlorinate pools for removal of cloudy water, chloramines, disinfectant by-products, and all types of bacteria, virus and microbes found in pool water.

The Many Types of Pool Shock

    •  - Di-Zap Multi Shock is stabilized, and can be used daily in pools, spas and fountains without calcium build-up.
    •  - Pool Shock and Super Pool Shock from In The Swim is suitable for all purposes, sold in bags and buckets.
    •  - Non-Chlorine pool shock does everything that pool shock does, with exception to killing heavy algae blooms.

The Many Uses for Pool Shock

    •  - Restores clarity to cloudy pool water
    •  - Kills pool algae strains of all types
    •  - Sanitizes to destory bacteria of all types
    •  - Removes chloramines and other chlorine byproducts
    •  - Breaks down organic and non-organic matter, and bather waste
    •  - Raises chlorine levels quickly when found to be near zero
    •  - Removes stains on plaster, pebble and fiberglass pools

    Where's the Lithium Shock?

Lithium pool shock is no longer available, due to a worldwide shortage of the raw element Lithium. Lithium price increases in 2016 finally reached a tipping point, where manufacturers stopped producing Lithium Hypochlorite. The best substitute for Lithium pool shock is non-chlorine pool shock, in terms of having the most similar features. Di-Zap can also be used in place of Lithium Hypo as well, however it does not dissolve as rapidly; pre-dissolving is recommended for vinyl pools.

    Should I Pre-Dissolve Pool Shock?

When using chlorine pool shock in a Vinyl pool, it is recommended to pre-dissolve the granules in a bucket of water before adding to the pool. Plaster, pebble and fiberglass pools can pour or broadcast directly into the pool, using a pool brush afterwards to help distribute the granules. To Pre-Dissolve pool shock, pour 1 or 2 bags into a clean 5-gal bucket that has been 3/4 filled with pool water. Stir for 60-90 seconds until completely dissolved, and then pour along the edge of the pool. If any remaining granules fall into the pool, use a pool brush to help them disperse and dissolve.

How Do I Shock My Pool?

    •  1. Clean the pool of debris before shocking a pool
    •  2. Balance the water chemistry and adjust pH to 7.2-7.4
    •  3. Each pound of pool shock will deliver between 7-9 PPM, per 10,000 gallons of pool water
    •  4. Add enough shock to reach a target threshold of 10, 20 or 30 PPM, depending on water condition
    •  5. Brush the pool, and run pool filter for 6-8 hours following shock treatment
    •  6. Keep solar covers safely stored off the pool until high chlorine level subsides
    •  7. Check chemistry levels within 24 hours and adjust as needed, if chlorine is found to be zero, repeat shock treatment

    Pool Shock Treatment Tips

    •  - Always add shock to water, Never add water to pool shock
    •  - Always use the entire bag, Never store half-used bags of shock
    •  - Always distribute the shock around the pool, Never pour into the skimmer
    •  - Always shock a pool with a pH level on the low side, 7.2-7.4, where chlorine is more potent
    •  - Always brush the pool after shocking, with a stiff pool brush, or a stainless steel bristled algae brush
    •  - Always rinse out your shock bags in the pool, and allow them to dry before disposing in the trash
    •  - Always sweep up any shock spills immediately, and pour into the pool.
    •  - Never mix chlorine granules with any other type of chemical, or anything except water.
