    Chlorine & Bromine

    1. 2 years ago
      exactly what I needed
I had a to treat my pool for white water mold several times of the last 3 years which required multiple applications of high amounts chlorine based shock. The chlorine shock that I used was stabilized and the end result included my pool water registering a high level of stabilizer. I needed to find a chlorine product that did not include a stabilizer and this product was EXACTLY what I needed.

      Great product
My CYA was getting high so I needed something to add chlorine/shock my pool that wouldn’t increase it. This is exactly what I needed! It works well and my pool is very clear.

      So far, so good
Had too much CYA from “stabilized chlorine” and needed to lower, this product gave me chlorine without CYA, and I’ve had seen my CYA lowering since using it (have had to pump pool few times due to rain) but I use about 6-8oz every other day for 20k gallons, and have had no issues. Was worried about price paid and thought of it not lasting long, however, I’ve hardly put a dent in the bucket, and probably could make a full season last from one bucket at the rate I’m using currently

      Great Value
This is the first time I've purchased these from IntheSiwm. They have the best price per volume that I was able to find. I was disappointed to see that the tablets are individually wrapped. I looked back at the description, and I see that it does state that they are. I'd prefer that they were not individually wrapped, as this amounts to trash blowing away while I'm filling my chlorinators. The individual wrappers do not prevent your hands from wreaking of chlorine either, as I'd guess is ... read more their intended purpose.

      Great Product
On the advice of a fellow pool owner I tried using liquid bleach from my local supermarket to chlorinate my pool. He assured me I would see a significant cost saving. I regret that he was talking rubbish! Mid swimming season I realised the sun burnt off the bleach at an alarming rate plus the ph was bouncing around requiring more chemical input to cure. So back I went to In The Swim Chlorine Tablets. My 35,000 gal pools uses 4 tablets a week, ph is stable and the water sparkles.

      GREAT PRODUCT
I have used In The Swim 3 " chlorine tabs for 17 years. We have a 18 x 36 inground and just one tab in each skimmer every 4-5 days along with 5 oz. of super algaecide every 2 weeks and water has always been great!( and it's hot in West TN) 25 pounds gets me through entire season. Price is competitive and its to your door quick. Only way to go.

CRYSTAL CLEAR SPARKLY pool, better than Calpo!
We switched from super-shock to Dichlor for our 18x33' above ground pool because our well water is extremely hard, and this brand of it is awesome! 99% sodium Dichlor clears our pool SO FAST! Calpo took WEEKS to clear a green pool. With di-zap, we have a crystal clear pool in ONE day. Beautiful, clear, SPARKLING. Amazing. Plus it helps keep our stabilizer levels up... another problem we were having. And it dissolves quickly & completely - no liner bleaching. Love di-zap from In The Swim!

Best shock thay I have ever used.
I got a box of 12 bags & I'm glad I did. It does more than shock. I have a fibreglass pool and had trouble with staining when I shocked with a different brand, it also dissolves quickly

      Bromine
the little plastic bags disintegrate in the bucket and the tiny pieces of plastic get in the brominator & clog the valves -- never used to come in the "convenient bags" was always just tabs in bucket. don't know what to do now. Maybe empty all bags on first arrival if they are intact then??

      No more chlorine for me
I use Bromine in my above ground swimming pool. It works great and i dont have any problems with algae. I put it in a floating feeder and it slowly dissolves. Lasts a long time. It is not harsh to your skin and eyes. My nephew breaks out from chlorine when i switch to bromine he hasnt broke out since. Its a little expensive for how much you get but worth the performance of the product. Dont breath in the dust from it will get you. A lot of pool stores look at you crazy when you tell them you use ... read more in your pool. They dont know much about it. Its great.

      Packets inside-YAY!!
Very happy with this bromine. Love that the bucket has individual packs of the tablets which makes it so much easier!

      Chlorine Sticks
I highly recommend the use of In The Swim's Chlorine Sticks. They are the best, most long lasting, effective and inexpensive I have used in the 38 years I have had my pool. You cant go wrong with these chlorine sticks. My pool looks great.
    2. 10 years ago
Did what they said they will
I have not found a product that works as well for the same price. Each stick is individually wrapped so when you open up the bucket you are not COMPLETELY knocked over by the fumes. I also live in a moist climate so they do not deteriorate. I use the sticks in an in-line chlorinator and once you have your chlorine levels set, it's easy to keep the desired levels. In the Swim ships quickly and my order has always been correct. Their prices are much more competive than I can get from my local stores.

      Great product, free next-day delivery!!
We have always used these sticks, slow dissolve, fit perfect in chlorinator, free next-day delivery.... what isn't to like the ease of this?!?!

      Great product, excellent service ....
I love 1" chlorine tablets and ordered a 50 lb bucket. It is hard for me to lift this weight so I had geared myself up to lift it and pour some tablets into a smaller container to put into my chlorinator. Imagine my happiness when I opened the 50 lb bucket and found it already divided into smaller cellophane bags. All I had to do was take out a bag, cut it open, and put into the chlorinator. I am keeping the algae at bay and not putting my back out. Thank you soooo much!!!!

      50 lb tub 1"Chlorine tablets
I have used these tablets for 20+ yrs and find them to be the best in delivering concentrated Chlorine in a minimum of pump running time. The resealable tub and individual packets in the 50lb tub are so convenient. 1/2 packet every week in my 40k gal pool in ground pool. I won't use anything else.

excellent pool shock & spa super chlorinator
I have had a pool for 35 years and have always used dichlor as my shock (except for hth early on). it works great and the price is good (wish it were cheaper but In The Swim's price compares favorably to the competition). the tub lid is easy on / easy off. NOTE: If you buy a tub for the pool and have a spa, set some of this product aside for use as your spa chlorinating agent. (It is a lot cheaper than buying the spa chlorinating agent which is the identical formulation).

      Great Product
I love the fact that this product works so well with no fuss and muss, You dump the appropriate amount into the skimmer basket and let your filter do the rest. I have no problem maintaining the proper chlorine level and the filter does all the work. If you do run into any algae growth, a heavier dose of this product works well to kill it. No wasting money on costly algaecides. Reccomended doses for weekly shock are on the container too. I also love the safety lid. I have used many that are just ... read more so hard to open, this one just has you squeeze the tab and rotate. No more fighting the lid just to get to the chemical.

      chlorine
Works just like the very expensive chlorine other stores sell.

      Works well
Great purchase! I used it to shock the pool and the next day all the algae were gone

      The perfect chlorine
I have been using this chlorine for my pool for the past 2 years. It has done a great job. Wouldn’t want to use any other product.

      clear blue water
It instantly clears green algae water to blue, crystal clear waters.

In The Swim Knowledge Pool: Chlorine & Bromine

    In The Swim's Dr. Pool

    Differences between Chlorine and Bromine?

The general rule is that bromine is more often used in spas and hot tubs, and chlorine is more often used in pools. Although they are close cousins and adjacent to each other on the Periodic Table, bromine and chlorine have distinct differences, and unique properties to offer benefits to certain users. Bromine vs. Chlorine? Read on for more information about pool chlorine and spa sanitizers.

    Chlorine and Bromine

    • - Bromine can be reactivated to reduce cost, but bromine tablets cost more than chlorine tablets.
    • - Bromine is more stable in hot water, to provide longer lasting sanitation, even during full use.
    • - Bromine is more stable in a wider pH range, remains strong under rapid pH swings.
    • - Bromine has less odor in the water, and less irritation to skin and hair.

    • - Chlorine is the most economical way to sanitize a pool.
    • - Chlorine tablets are stabilized 1" or 3" slow dissolve Trichlor tablets and 8 oz. sticks.
    • - Chlorine tablets dissolve rapidly enough to treat larger pools effectively.
    • - Chlorine granules react instantly for rapid super-chlorination or shock treatments.

    Swimming Pool Chlorine Options

In The Swim tablet chlorine dissolves fast and almost instantly begins to sanitize your pool water. In The Swim 3 Inch Chlorine Tablets are 8 oz. stabilized Trichlor tablets, and are also available as a 0.5 oz. pellet, in our 1 Inch Chlorine Tablets. In The Swim 8 oz. Slow Dissolving Pool Chlorine Sticks work fast and last longer. Our 3-inch Super Multi-Tabs are unique pool chlorine tabs with stabilizer, algaecide and clarifier added. Sticks or tablets can be used in chlorine floaters, or place the pucks in an in-line or off-line chlorine feeder, to provide a daily chlorine level that is consistent and constant.

In The Swim granular chlorine like the economical Cal-Hypo granular chlorine and stabilized Dichlor chlorine granules are both available loose in buckets and also sold in 1-pound bags, as Pool Shock, Super Shock and Di-Zap. Pre-dissolve chlorine granules into a large bucket of water for vinyl pools, or sprinkle the chlorine powder directly into concrete pools, spas and fountains to maintain free chlorine levels, to raise chlorine levels rapidly, or to super-chlorinate the pool. Granular chlorine is used regularly to quickly kill algae and bacteria, and oxidize microscopic particles and contaminants in the water.

    Pool Chlorine Chemistry

Chloramines form when a chlorine molecule has combined with ammonia or nitrogen to produce the familiar chlorine scent often associated with swimming pools - that’s not the smell of free chlorine, but of combined chlorine. As chloramines build up they reduce the effectiveness of your chlorine. When Chloramine level (Total - Free Chlorine) is greater than 0.3 ppm, (TC-FC=CC), this is time to add pool shock to your pool to remove the combined chlorine molecules.

UV rays from the sun breakdown chlorine molecules which also contributes to making chlorine less effective. Although our pool chlorine tablets are stabilized, it takes some time for a residual to build up. Pool stabilizer (aka conditioner) contains cyanuric acid, which combines with chlorine to protect your pool chlorine from sunlight degradation. It’s like sunscreen for your chlorine, and will save you money spent on chlorine in the long run.

The pH of your pool water has a large effect on the efficacy or potency of your chlorine. In addition to maintaining stabilizer levels in the 20-50 ppm range, keeping a close eye on pH will reduce your chlorine expense, and also help ensure clean and clear pool water. At a high-pH level of 8.2, over half (+50%) of your chlorine is wasted. Pool chlorine works best at low pH ranges of 7.2-7.4, and becomes less active in higher pH pool water.

Can I use Bromine In My Pool?

In The Swim Bromine Tablets are slow-dissolving by nature, and can take longer to build up a residual, although bromides can be added to quickly boost levels. Bromine is also un-stabilized, so it does not stand up well to bright sunlight. However, bromine tablets are popular for indoor pools or heavily shaded outdoor pools. Bromine pools have a softer smell of pool bromine, and can re-activate bromides into bromine, simply by shocking the pool (with chlorine!).

To use bromine tabs in a spa, you will need to have a bromide ion 'bank' built up, or a preexisting level of bromide ions (the reduced form of bromine). Many spa users add Brom Booster to raise levels quickly after draining the hot tub. Then you can simply use the bromine tabs in a feeder or floater. In The Swim Bromine is far more stable and effective in high temperatures, which is why it is almost always used in spas and hot tubs.

Can I Use Chlorine In My Spa?

The money you will save by purchasing chlorine over bromine for use in a spa is negated rather quickly due to the fact that you will need to use much more chlorine to keep the spa sanitized due to the heat of the water, heavy bather loads, and because bromine cannot be reactivated. Bromine tablets can be used in small floating feeders in spas or hot tubs because they hold such a small amount of water and the bromine can disperse more effectively.

Bromine tabs are also more effective over a broader spectrum on the pH scale than chlorine tabs. In the context of a spa, 4 people entering the water can cause extreme swings in the spa pH level since it is a significantly smaller volume of water. When pH levels rise above 8.0, chlorine can become 50% less effective, whereas bromine remains potent at higher pH levels. If you do plan to use chlorine in a hot tub, please use spa chlorine products, not pool chlorine.

    Never Mix Chlorine and Bromine

Some people may choose a bromine pool because they have sensitive skin, or for indoor pools. Other pool owners prefer the convenience of pool chlorine and the ability to quickly raise or lower levels. However, if you do decide to switch to pool bromine, you will need to replace the chlorinator with a Brominator. Mixing pool chlorine and spa bromine can cause a dangerous chemical reaction with even the slightest bit of residue. The same is true for all types of pool chlorine - Trichlor tablets and sticks, Cal Hypo shock and Dichlor shock - all will react violently with each other if mixed together, or with any other chemical.
