Frequently Asked Questions:

Why is my “power” LED not lit?
– Check to make sure 120V AC input power is connected to the Aqua Trol control. Verify input voltage with a voltmeter. If there is input power, the fuse may have blown. The unit is protected by a 20 amp mini ATO fuse located on the circuit board above the cell connector.

Why is my “generating” LED not lit?
– The Aqua Trol only generates chlorine when the filter pump is running, the main switch is in the “Auto” or “Super Chlorinate” position, and none of the red fault LEDs are illuminated.

Why is my “generating” LED flashing?
– The temperature of the pool water is too high or low to operate. You can override this by switching the main switch to “Super Chlorinate.” The Aqua Trol will run at maximum output for the remainder of the current pump cycle or 24 hours, whichever comes first.

Why is the “No Flow” LED lit?
– The Aqua Trol has sensed a no flow condition and has stopped generating chlorine. Check that the flow switch is plugged into the connector on the bottom of the control unit and that the wire is not cut or damaged. Make sure you have at least 12” of straight pipe before the flow switch. If there is adequate flow and the LED is still on, check that the arrows on the flow switch (on top of hex) are pointing in the direction of flow.

Why is the “Test Salt Level” LED lit or flashing?
– Take a sample of your pool water to your local pool store and have the salt level tested. No salt test is completely accurate and the test results may vary from the salt level on the Aqua Trol display. If salt level is low, add salt according to the chart in the owner’s manual.

Why is the “High Salt” LED lit?
– Check the salt level in the pool. If it is too high, lower the salt level by draining some of the pool water out of the pool and replace with fresh water.

Why is the “Inspect Cell” LED flashing?
– Inspect and clean the cell according to manufacturer directions. When done, press the “diagnostic” button for 3 seconds to stop the flashing.

WWhy is the “Inspect Cell” LED lit?
– Remove and inspect the cell for scale. If the cell is scaled, clean per manufacturer directions. If the pool has the proper amount of salt and the “Inspect Cell” LED is still lit, the cell may be worn and need replacement.

Why am I getting little or no free chlorine residual?
– Aqua Trol switch in the “off” position.
– The desired level % adjustment setting is too low.
– Low stabilizer level.
– Filter pump switched off or filter pump time too short (8 hours for average size pools, more for large pools).
– Salt level too low (below 2500 ppm)
– Salt level too high (High Salt LED lit).
– Pool water warmer than usual, increase “desired level %” or run filter longer.
– If water temperature falls below 50 degrees F, the Aqua Trol stops generating.
– Excessive scaling on the cell.
– High level of Nitrogen in pool water.
– Yellow algae treatments (Yellow Out) use chlorine at a high rate and deplete the residual free chlorine.

Why is “-Pcb-” displayed and all 4 red/yellow LEDs lit?
– There is a possible Printed Circuit Board fault. Call the manufacturer for service (888-921-POOL).

Great piece of equipment I bought this eq at the beginning of last summer and I have not been let down. It has performed like a champ!!! My chemical bill has been slashed tremendously since going to salt. I highly recommend it to all. I wash the plates out weekly so there is no buildup. I have clear water and the levels are all right where they need to be...Happy Swimming!!!! April 15, 2011

Best generator for above ground pool I had purchased the cheaper intex model and had nothing but problems. I took it back to the big box store and paid the extra $400 for this unit. It has worked flawlessly so far (3 months). The water is crystal clear and not one sign of algae. The connections are made for above ground hoses, so it is simple to connect. I love the timer feature, which turns on (and off) the pool equipment everyday (at your preset times) and then generates chlorine. I would have given this unit 5 stars, but the cell isn't easy to clean. We have really hard water, so the cell needs cleaning after month or so (it has an indicator to tell you to clean it). Since it has caked on calcium deposits, it really needs an acid wash. You have to be careful not to submerge the cord/housing into the acid wash. This can be difficult to accomplish, but I manage. The payoff is clear/algae free water. Without constant chemical management. Our pool specs- 16'x28' above ground ground "Doughboy"-placed in ground 12500gals July 25, 2009

Great Product! This is a terrific product that I would recommend to anyone who is interested in less maintenance. We installed this product in our 18,000 gallon pool approximately 6 weeks ago. We have had crystal clear water ever since! We have not had to add any chemicals to the water at all except the salt (which we were able to purchase in 40# bags @ WalMart). It has been an AMAZING summer. We have actually saved money this summer on the pool! I cannot recommend this product enough! You do have the option of using the flexible tubing that is on the pool or "hard plumbing" it in. My husband chose to hard plumb the system in using PVC pipe. The actual plumbing was done in about 30 min. Keep in mind that if you choose to use PVC you'll need to wait 12 - 24 hours for the glue to dry (depending on the glue) before turning the water on to the system. July 13, 2009
