Pros:
Sucks up oil like a magnet.
Cons:
Get's rather nasty fast.
"
The technology behind the Scum Ball is pretty slick. It is made with a "hydrophobic" material...meaning it repels water and attracts oil. And boy does it work!
You drop one into your skimmer and just let it bob around. That oily sheen you see on the surface of you pool from suntan lotions & oils will adhere to the ball. Now the ball DOES get goopy after some time, but you can wash it out and reuse, or just toss it and throw in another.

Pros:
works well
Cons:
none noticed
"
These are comparable to the "sun absorbs" sold. I think they did a great job catching sun tan lotions and skin oils from my pool. 2 of them lasted me all summer. In fact, they still looked good when I replaced the first one 1/2 way through the summer!
